Committees
Introduction
The functions of the Committees are governed by the provisions of Articles 44, 45, 47, 48, 49, 50 and 56 of the Municipalities Law 111/85. These Articles provide for the composition, general responsibilities and committee procedures. These articles give to the Municipal Council the right to regulate the rules of the meetings of all Committees. (Article 45 (6) – The Council regulates the rules of the meetings of such Committees).
The Municipal Council may appoint General or Special Committees (Ad-hoc). The General Committees are also appointed by the Municipal Council and are permanently engaged in matters of their competence. The Special Committees are appointed by the Municipal Council to examine only one common topic and after the completion of the whole matter, the Commission ceases to exist.
The committees’ responsibility is for offering advice. Members of these Committees may be locals that were not elected as Municipal Councelors.
