Civil Weddings
Weddings at the Athienou municipality take place according to the provisions of the Marriage Law 104(1) 2003.
Those interested should apply at the offices of the Athienou Municipality in order to be informed about the required documentation for their marriage to take place.
The required original documents that need to be provided for a civil wedding to take place are the following:
CYPRIOTS
- Sworn affidavit from a district prosecutor’s office stating clearly the marital status of the person involved, i.e. unmarried/divorced/widowed. In the case of divorced or widowed it should be stated that after the divorce or the death of the spouse, no other marriage has taken place. In this document the name of the person whom the individual intends to marry should be stated.
- If he/she is unmarried, they must provide a certificate from the District Administration Office.
- If he/she is divorced:
- Divorce certificate duly signed and stamped by the family court registrar stating that it is final and irrevocable after 42 days of its date of issuance
- Religious divorce from the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus if it was issued before 1990
- and certificate from the District Administration Office (with date of issuance not more than (2) months.
- If he/she are widowed, a death certificate of the deceased spouse should be provided and confirmation from the District Administration Office. (with date of issuance not more than (2) months).
- Copy certificate.
- Identity card.

NON EUROPEAN COUNTRIES
- Recent temporary residency permit,
- Sworn affidavit from a district prosecutor’s office stating clearly the marital status of the person involved, i.e. unmarried/divorced/widowed. In the case of divorced or widowed it should be stated that after the divorce or the death of the spouse, no other marriage has taken place. In this document the name of the person whom the individual intends to marry should be stated,
- Certificate from the marriage officer of the ministry of interior,
- Recent certificate of marital status issued from an official authority (i.e. town hall, ministry of interior, embassy etc) which is officially translated in Greek and is duly valid,
- In case of a divorced person, the divorce certificate officially translated in greek and duly valid,
- In case of a widowed person, certificate of death of spouse officially translated in greek and duly valid,
- Copy of birth certificate
- Valid passport
EUROPEANS
- Valid Permanent Residency slip (Yellow slip)
- Sworn affidavit from a district prosecutor’s office stating clearly the marital status of the person involved, i.e. unmarried/divorced/widowed. In the case of divorced or widowed it should be stated that after the divorce or the death of the spouse, no other marriage has taken place. In this document the name of the person whom the individual intends to marry should be stated,
- Certificate from the marriage officer of the ministry of interior
- Recent certificate of marital status issued from an official authority (i.e. town hall, ministry of interior, embassy etc) which is officially translated in greek and is duly valid. In case of greek citizens a recent MARRIAGE LICENSE is required from a town hall
- In case of a divorced person, the divorce certificate officially translated in greek and duly valid
- In case of a widowed person, certificate of death of spouse officially translated in greek and duly valid
- Copy of birth certificate
- Valid Passport

In the case that the applicant’s country has not signed the ‘Hague Convention’ of 1961 and there is no embassy/consulate of the Cyprus republic in the applicant’s country, the documents should be certified and sealed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the applicant’s country and then by the nearest embassy/consulate which is accredited by the Cyprus republic.
The marriage can proceed either through the regular process (notification) or through a faster procedure, provided that the interested parties submit all required documentation.
The two procedures that the interested parties can follow are:
GENERAL INFORMATION:
Working hours of the municipality are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The interested parties should have completed the 18th year of age. The marriage is allowed to persons who have completed the 16th year of age provided that they present a written consent from their parents or guardians.
The marriage ceremony is short at around 10-15 minutes. The original certificate of marriage is given to the couple after the marriage ceremony and is signed by the “Marriage Officer”.
True copies of the marriage certificate are issued to interested parties on payment of a fee of €13,67.

CIVIL WEDDINGS AT THE MUNICIPALITY OF ATHIENOU
CHOICE A - KALLINIKEIO MUNICIPAL BUILDING
Wedding charges, according to the provisions of the ‘Marriage Law 104(I)/2003’.
A. Regular procedure €128,15
B. Faster procedure €281,92
- Transportation from and to the airport or / and to the hotel by taxi.
- Welcome by the Mayor of Athienou, Marriage Officer, at the entrance of the Kallinikeio Municipal Building, which will be decorated with a flower arch.
- Marriage ceremony at the entrance or at the meeting room of the Kallinikeio Municipal Building, which will be decorated with flowers on the table. Offer of champagne.
- Possibility of taking professional pictures at the places of the Kallinikeio Muicipal Building, indoors and outdoors.
- Overnight staying at a newlywed suite in an agrotouristic lodgement of Athienou.
CHOICE B - CONSTANTINEIO MUNICIPAL PARK
Wedding charges, according to the provisions of the ‘Marriage Law 104(I)/2003’.
A. Regular procedure €128,15
B. Faster procedure €281,92
- Transportation from and to the airport or / and to the hotel by taxi.
- Welcome by the Mayor of Athienou, Marriage Officer, at the main entrance of the Park, which will be decorated with a flower arch.
- Marriage ceremony at a place of choice in the Park. Offer of champagne.
- Renting of the Park for the marriage ceremony.
- Configuration and decoration of the place where the couple will welcome its guests.
- Microphone installment and DJ service.
- Overnight staying at a newlywed suite in an agrotouristic lodgement of the Athienou.
Professional pictures taking
CHOICE C - AGROTOURISTIC LODGEMENT
Wedding charges, according to the provisions of the ‘Marriage Law 104(I)/2003’.
A. Regular procedure €128,15
B. Faster procedure €281,92
- Transportation from and to the airport or / and to the agrotouristic lodgement by taxi.
- Welcome by the Mayor of Athienou, Marriage Officer, in the indoors yard of the lolgement, which will be decorated accordingly.
- Marriage procedure at the indoors yard or at the inside of the lodgement. It includes the right to use the place.
- Renting of microphone installment.
- Overnight staying at a newlywed suite of the lodgement.
- Professional pictures taking.
- Renting of the place for extra pictures taking.
Notes
- The services of the proposals have to do with the coordination of the various services, for helping the couple in different matters, like for example the arrangement of having a buffet at a restaurant of the area, contact with flower shops for extra services, confectioneries, photographers, Dj and generally for any other needs.
- From the services mentioned above, the couple can choose those it want and the Municipality will help it. The cost will be configured in each case accordingly.
- For CHOICE C, the capacity in a case of a dinner is 180 sitting people. For a buffet, more people can be served.
- For all the CHOICES, it can be arranged, if the couple chooses, pictures taking in a rehabilitated preserved building own by the Municipality of Athienou, with a typical cost of €100.
